FINGERS V

Tiny
and somewhat
chubby
clumbsy

tiny and
round

grabs
your finger

all five
tiny fingers
round
the one

and you wonder
when these fingers
will be big enough

for other
tiny fingers
to grab.

FINGERS IV

clawing, reaching, swimming
grabbing hold of sky and sea
and beach, the beach

digging our ways
to a new place and a
new life but
mostly, away

clawing, reaching, swimming
waving in panic and reaching
one last touch
air
above
the
waves

what will my fingers
touch
when I’m gone ?

whose fingers
will touch mine ?

will they
burn first
or last
like the end
of the candle’s
wick?

whack

wave

waving.

FINGERS III

with dirty nails
they point
everywhere

because that
is that
and they want you
to know
they know

with dirty prints
they point
to each other

because they know
in the end
they point to themselves

digitally
their digits
stretch and point away
in any direction
they can dig
their nails into
because

they know
that if they don’t point
the fingers might
actually

need to be put
to use.

FINGERS II

they tickled
the night sky that
allowed them
full visibility

miles away you
could see them
wiggling and giving
anything that

tried to run,
to hide, to live
the proverbial
fingers

crawling onto
the squirming and
the dying
they reached

for the stars

for Home.

FINGERS I

and so the final nails clawed,
tried to grab on to
things groped brittle
and gone

High up in the trees
the monstrous brutality
we once called
humankind, roared

A cry of victory
over everything
worth competing for

It was a gloriously
hollow day

as the sun gently
comforted the nothing
that remained.

BETRAYAL

At best it was bold
but that’ll barely matter
once the word is sold
the believers will scatter

Abstract distraction
devalue of deference
uninspired dissatisfaction
failing to make a difference

A tasteless demise
served on a silver platter
and the inscription will read:

it was bold,
but didn’t matter.

BLESSED

I can see you
through a million eyes
because a million eyes
are looking

And I’m not sure
that I like
what they see

No one sees our fights
or how sloshed you can be
how you hide your age under
fake smiles and paint,
so very much paint

Sure, they see
the curvy wrappings
wiggling and
attracting

I get to see
the awful mess
you really are

Aren’t we blessed ?

AND SCENE

So then I stopped
looked around
and shouted

Hey man
I don’t understand
this scene

Much to my surprise
a voice responded
loud, booming
furious

That it didn’t
matter

Just play your part, asshole

Just
play
your
part

So I did
but somehow
I no longer
expected
a standing ovation.

FIRST THING

The first is
to think
of a second
One

or else

Everything
will be
for
Nothing

MEMO FOR MEDUSA

Please don’t
look as stupid
as you
will
